In 2010, the government announced a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) fund of BDT240bn ($3.2bn) to provide loans to SMEs and women entrepreneurs. The country has completed the legal and regulatory framework needed to start e-commerce in 2012.
Under its Vision 2021 strategy, the country plans to move into the middle-income category through various development initiatives. Under Vision 2021, the government is targeting economic emancipation and establishment of digital Bangladesh. The country plans to raise its GDP growth to 8% by 2013 and 10% by 2021. The country plans to focus on agriculture and labor-intensive industries, as well as the information technology sector. In June 2012, the government introduced a budget of $23.67bn for FY2012, ending in June 2013, aimed at economic growth of 7.2% and a budget deficit of 5% of GDP.
